VIERA —The Brevard Indo-American Medical and Dental Association (BIMDA) will hold a major medical conference — "The Business of Medicine" — from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 4 in Viera.

The first-of-its-kind conference is aimed at area physicians, hospital and group administrators, medical academic and research faculty as they adjust to the ever-complex and changing world of providing health care to individuals on the Space Coast.

Saji Salam, a national healthcare consultant based in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota, will give the opening address at the conference, which takes place at the Brevard County Health Department's Posey Conference Center, 2555 Judge Fran Jamieson Way, Viera.

Anchor sponsors for this event are Gray Robinson, Right Angle Solutions and Space Coast ACO. They will be providing distinguished speakers to present on the topics of healthcare law, the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015, or MACRA and accountable care organizations or ACOs.

Also included will be discussions on estate planning and asset protection.

"One of the goals of the business conference is to introduce the best and brightest minds in town to the physician community," said Glad Kurian, one of the founders of BIMDA who has been involved in health care issues ever since the nonprofit organization started more than two decades ago.

“Every speaker is carefully vetted and selected for this exclusive conference," he said.

Dr. Ashok Shah, board member with Parrish Medical Center and sponsorship chair for BIMDA, said: "Physicians in practice should attend this event to hone their skills in the business aspects of medicine."

"We are so excited to host this conference," said Dr. Aparna Kopuri, president of BIMDA.

BIMDA has been offering educational conferences for over 20 years.

What makes it especially important now is the focus on MACRA, which is a hot topic with physicians. Kurian said MACRA has created a new framework for rewarding physicians for providing higher quality care.

The event is not open to the general public. Strictly physicians and healthcare administrators. Physicians may register by visiting www.bimda.com/register.
