Jess Parrish Medical Foundation and Parrish Medical Center Auxiliary Award 24 Scholarships for Study in Heatlhcare and Medicine

TITUSVILLE, FLA. (May 9, 2018) — Jess Parrish Medical Foundation (JPMF) and Parrish Medical Center (PMC) Auxiliary awarded $49,250 in scholarships to twenty-four outstanding college and graduating high school seniors that distinguished themselves through passionate dedication to their communities and a pursuit of studies in the fields of medicine or healthcare.

Brevard Indo-American Medical and Dental Association (BIMDA), generous donor to the JPMF scholarship program and dedicated to supporting future generations of healthcare professionals, committed funds through 2021 allowing for additional scholarships to be awarded annually.  “BIMDA is passionate about making an impact in the lives of students pursuing careers in healthcare related to human health, and honored to play a role in helping our future healthcare professionals realize their dream,” said Glad Kurian, honorary executive director.  Thanks to BIMDA’s support, six students were awarded an additional $1,000 scholarship.  “BIMDA has been an outstanding partner, and we are grateful for their generosity, said Misty Wilson, JPMF Director.  They have made a lasting impact on the community, the students and their education.”

This year’s scholarship winners were: Savannah Cantrell, Kailey Caudill, Maddalena Fairchild and Ahmad Radhi – Astronaut High School; Elizabeth  Courey and Emily Kerness – Edgewood Jr./Sr. High School; Anna Backus – Home educated; Shannon Washington – Space Coast Jr./Sr. High School; Eboni Arnold, Emma Colvin, Jillian Eberhart, Siaunna Jenkins, Jessica O’Bryan, Kayla Ouellette, and Krishna Thakkar – Titusville High School; Tram-Anh Tran – University of Florida; Lynette Gonzalez, Allison Hilton; Minh-Chau Le; Jessica Matteson, Abby Recicar, Makayla Rymkos and Kyle Sellers – University of Central Florida; and  Lindsey Hart – University of South Florida.

Scholarship Committee chair, Bill Terry, led the committee through the process of evaluating applicants in the areas of academic performance, awards and honors, extracurricular activities, leadership, community service and work experience, recommendation letters, application essay and PMC/JPMF affiliation.  “All of our recipients are exceptional and we look to them to lead the next generation in shaping the future of healthcare.  We are delighted to be able to award our scholarships to such accomplished and deserving students, said Terry.  I would also like to extend heartfelt thanks to BIMDA, and to Barbara and Terry Terhune for their generous sponsorship of $1,000 toward the scholarship fund which allowed for additional students to be awarded.”

Committee members include Santi Bulnes, Deborah Cox, Dot Hudson, Dennis Jones, Terry Lee, Patricia Manning, Ed.D., Roger Miller, Howard Rinker, DDS, Philip Simpson, Ph.D. and Barbara Terhune.
